The 2017 Nissan GT-R is getting a tweener model. Called the Track Edition, this new variant will feature some of the performance bits from the GT-R Nismo, though it still runs the ‘base’ Premium version’s 565-horsepower V6 engine. The GT-R Track version has a Nismo-tuned chassis, Nismo front fenders, 20-inch Nismo aluminum-alloy wheels, Recaro seats, and a carbon-fiber spoiler.
2017 Nissan GTR Track Edition Exterior and Interior
Like a race car, the GT-R Track Edition’s body shell is more rigid with additional adhesive bonding, Nissan says, noting that the 4-wheel suspension is tuned like its NISMO sibling. Reduced weight and NISMO-spec tires add stability. The GT-R Track Edition also features an aggressive front end with Nissan’s NISMO fenders and V-Motion grille plus a carbon fiber rear spoiler. The car rides on 20-in. NISMO aluminum alloy wheels with NISMO-spec tires.
Inside, the Track Edition gets special leather wrapped Recaro front seats and “simplified switches.” The Track Edition keeps the BOSE stereo and noise cancellation of the base car which should make it a bit more civilized around town compared to the NISMO version. The dashboard layout includes 11 switches with an 8-in. touch-screen monitor. Standard steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters help drivers to make mid-turn gear changes quickly without the driver taking their hands off the wheel.
2017 Nissan GTR Track Edition Under the Hood
The Track Edition retains the same engine tune as the base car with 565 HP and 467 lb-ft of torque but adds some NISMO bits to sharpen the handling and increase the visual punch. The suspension is also NISMO-tuned by reducing weight and increasing the roll stiffness. Included in the Track Edition are NISMO 20-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels wrapped in NISMO-spec tires. You also get a carbon fiber spoiler and NISMO front fenders.
2017 Nissan GTR Track Edition Prices
The Track Edition is a much less expensive option to consider if you don’t need the 600 hp offered by the NISMO. Priced at $129,585, the Track Edition is neatly placed between the $111,685 Premium and the $176,685 NISMO.
The 2017 Nissan GT-R Track Edition will be available late this summer by special order only. The limited-production model will be offered as one fully equipped model with no option packages. Buyers can choose from one of five different exterior colors, including red, black, silver, white, and an orangey Blaze Metallic.
