2018 Kia Stonic SUV Review

The all-new Kia Stonic is an Eye Catching and confident compact Crossover, and is set to become a significant conquest model for Kia in one of Europe’s latest and fastest-growing vehicle segments.

The B-SUV segment now accounts for 1.1 million new car sales in Europe each year – around seven per cent of the market – and is forecast to expand to over two million annual sales by 2020.

The Stonic borrow styling cues from the big Sorento and Sportage SUVs and its general dimensions together with the little Kona SUV. On the front, it wears Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille, framed by a set of glossy headlights sporting LED lighting signatures. It’s a large lower air consumption in its front bumper flanked by two fog lights.

The car’s rear boasts two small brake lights with LED lighting Signatures and a plastic bumper using a rocky grey skid-plate. There’s a range of personalisation options — with five different contrasting roof colors available, allowing for up to 20 different two-tone color mixes.

The Stonic’s spacious cabin is well put together with hardly any Scratchy plastics and boasts a lot of passenger head and shoulder room. Three adults can sit comfortably at the trunk and a level floor ensures enough kneeroom for all of them — while the 352-litre boot could swallow up all their bag. It receives the company’s most up-to-date touchscreen infotainment system that comes standard with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Three petrol engines and one diesel will be provided — a frugal 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder gas, at 1.25-liter unit made from the Picanto hatchback and a 1.4-liter petrol. The only 1.6-liter diesel will be the least polluting of the lot and will yield the best gas market. All automobiles are offered with front-wheel driveway and mated to a manual gearbox as standard.

A Selection of optional active safety features is available, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian recognition, Forward Collision Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Departure Warning.
