2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC63 S AMG Coupe

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLC63 and GLC63 Coupe has been revealed ahead of its official debut at the 2017 New York auto show, and both cars come with fire-breathing V-8 engines as standard along with a host of suspension and chassis tweaks. In the standard GLC63 and GLC63 Coupe, the hand-built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 makes 469 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque; however, if that’s not enough the GLC63 S Coupe kicks it up a few notches with 503 hp and 516 lb-ft. Sadly, if you want the higher-output engine, you’ll have to make do with the less practical coupe variant since the S trim isn’t available with the standard GLC-Class. Both variants come standard with Mercedes-AMG’s new nine-speed multi-clutch automatic transmission that first debuted in the 2018 AMG E63 sedan and wagon.

The GLC63s also have aggressive front bumpers with a dog bone-shaped air intake like that on the AMG GT R. The black plastic fender flares are widened and house 19-inch wheels on the regular GLC63, and 20-inch wheels on the GLC63 S. At the back, all GLC63s get lip spoilers and more aggressive rear diffusers.

In addition to the performance exhaust, a selection of wheels, and some exterior trim options are available. Inside, the main options are different colors of leather and some sporty AMG seats.

The base GLC63 SUV and coupe both get an iteration of the engine with 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. The GLC63 S, which is only available in the coupe body style, ups the ante with 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft.

Regardless of trim, the V8 is coupled to an AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed transmission. All GLC63s also get limited-slip rear differentials, too.

The suspension of the GLC63 models is a fully independent air suspension with adjustable damping. Both the transmission and suspension can be adjusted by selecting any of the drive modes available, which start with a soft-riding, slower shifting Comfort mode, and go up to either Sport+ on a GLC63 or Race on a GLC63S. These latter modes firm up the suspension and speed up shift times, while also keeping the revs higher.
